A note for the JM Family -
Please bear with me, I can feel a ramble coming on. And if you can’t bear with me, let it be known that I love you anyway. Hah.
I fell in love with John Mayer way back when No Such Thing was making its rounds on mainstream radio stations; a time when my two front teeth were M.I.A and when pen licenses were all the go. I followed all of his hits on the radio, from Wonderland to Waiting On The World To Change and when I was old enough, delved a little deeper into the extent of his music career. Clearly, I haven’t looked back since. But it’s only been recently that I’ve joined his fanbase here on tumblr and I have to say, I was blown away. Honestly. I’ve never met a more beautiful and compassionate group of people in my life; I thought you should all know that and I’m so ecstatic that I can be a part of it.
These thoughts come off the back of this (very true) quote that I rediscovered just yesterday and something I found myself considering as I browsed the Zac Efron tag this afternoon (I used to be a part of the Zefron fandom a few years ago — I had a blog not dissimilar to this one — but ultimately lost interest). The sexy pictures aside, there was a whole lot of blogs bitching at other blogs, fans getting way too defensive over their “ships”, even criticising Zac himself about ridiculous things like wearing sunglasses or standing next to Taylor Swift… No real substance, y’know? Just a gaggle of fourteen year old girls, or people that acted like fourteen year old girls, with nothing better to say.
Then I come back onto my dashboard and it’s a complete change of pace. There’s nobody snapping at someone else for liking one of John’s relationships better than the next. Actually, scratch that, there’s very little talk of the women he’s been involved with at all. No one minds that his hair has grown almost past his shoulders, in fact you all seem to embrace it judging by the many #afshbghfgdfgkl tags I saw at the bottom of the NAMM photos. Of course, you’ll drool over his sexy Details shoot but you’ll also hit that play button over and over and over again when a Bob Dylan cover of his pops up on the dashboard. There’s no questions asked in regards to what direction he’s headed in musically because you all know that anything this man does will be beyond brilliant, even if he’s singing about tiny bananas ;) There’s nothing but appreciation for him and the music he makes. And what I love most is how you all come together based on this mutual appreciation and love, no hint of snark whatsoever. John really was right when he said that he had the best fans in the world, he’s well earned the bragging rights.
There’s a reason why your collective name is the JM Family, you know — not “Mayerites” or anything quite as feeble as that. You really are a family and a functional one at that. Always so full of praise and encouragement, both for JM and for each other. I just wanted you all to know that I love that about you. Thank you for welcoming me into this amazing family, I can’t wait to welcome in Born & Raised with you all.

I love John like he’s family and I can’t tell you how heartbroken I was when he was diagnosed.
